I recently attended an Akron Aeros ballgame on a beautiful August evening in downtown Akron. And while it was fun to watch the game at a great ballpark (Akron lost… I think) the “main event” for the evening was a different sport altogether. Two words… midget…. wrestling.

It’s with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye today to one of my all time favorite wrestlers – The “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Randy (real name Randall Poffo) passed away earlier today after a car accident. Apparently he had a heart attack at the wheel while driving. He was 58 years old.

This is the first WrestleMania that I remember a hype for outside of the wrestling world. In addition to the pre-event hype, I remember vividly seeing on front page of the Cleveland Plain Dealer sports page the next day a huge photo of Hogan and Andre. In my mind this is the first time that WrestleMania was really an “event”. WrestleMania 25 is just recently in the books. It wasn’t great but there were a couple of REALLY good matches. WrestleMania weekend for me always means going back and reliving some of those great matches from past events.
