I haven’t done a whole lot of blogging about the family lately but that’s certainly not by design. I’ve got a ton of super cute pictures and videos from the last couple of months that I’m dying to get to. I was walking out of the library the other day and happened to look over and see this scene… it was so cute to see the boys and A sitting there and even better cause I didn’t even know they were there!

To see them sitting there playing their Harry Potter video game was just awesome. Every once in a while I look at my family and realize once again just how lucky I am to be a dad and a husband… this was one of those times.

These types of lists typically come out at the beginning of the year. I’m all for giving convention the middle finger so I’m doing it in the day after St. Patrick’s Day. Got a problem with that? Part of why I keep this blog is as some sort of “outlet” for my creative juices. Another is that in this day and age this is about the only “cool” way for a guy to keep a diary. I go back and often and read stuff that I’ve written in the past so these types of lists I get a real kick out of. This particular list also will give you a pretty good idea of the type of stuff I write about. Enjoy!

The Top 10 Posts Of 2010 (Based On Number Of Views)

#10 – WrestleMania VI – The Ultimate Challenge
This is part of my WrestleMania Project where I’m reviewing every show since the beginning. As you’ll soon learn (if you don’t already know) I’m a wrestling geek. This particular show was great as the main event pitted Intercontinental Champion the Ultimate Warrior against WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan. Tremendous.

#9 – Robert B. Parker – R.I.P.
My all time favorite author Robert B. Parker (creator of Spenser of Spenser For Hire fame) passed away in January. This was my, “Thank you and goodbye” post.

#8 – Top Holiday Movies
The top 10 and 5 honorable mentions. If you’re looking for some good movies to check out next holiday season this would be a good list to start with.

#7 – Finally Something Good From The Birdman
Another wrestling related post. Koko B. Ware had one of the worst gimmicks in wrestling history (in my opinion). He was a “jobber” as smart wrestling fans say… a guy that loses to the big talent. Yet he’s in the WWE Hall Of Fame. All of my angst aside, I found something to like about him.

#6 – Top 10 Movie Villains (Pt. 1)
One of only 2 posts on the entire blog that I didn’t write. My good buddy Pip put together a list of his top villains. Pure gold. Unfortunately, part 2 has yet to be delivered *hint hint*

#5 – The WrestleMania 26 Drinking Game
Drinking is fun. Wrestling is fun. Mix them together and you’ve got a great time. This is last year’s version. If you’re interested in the current year’s list you can check it out here.

#4 – Mint.com FAIL
Mint.com is a (supposedly) site that allows you to keep track of your money, create and maintain a budget, etc. This post talks about my (brief) experience with the site.

#3 – Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Movies
I love top 10 lists. Here’s a list of movies that I hate to admit that I love.

#2 – Harry Hamlin Made Me Smile (in 2010)
The other post on the site that is not written by me. Pip has 2 out of the top 10… you’d think that’d be enough of an ego boost to get him to join me once in a while? This is a report of a video game that Pip played with an interesting cameo.

#1 – Top 80′s Action Movies
Thank GOD I managed to get the top spot on my own blog! Another top 10 list… this time my favorite 80′s action flicks. Love it!

When this movie (directed by Xavier Gens) was announced I was so pumped. For those of you that don’t know, Hitman is based on a video game franchise. If you’re a fan of the game series then you’ll probably like the film (though many things have changed from the games to the movie). That said, you certainly don’t need to have experience with the game to watch the movie.

The main character is Agent 47 played by Timothy Olyphant (Live Free Or Die Hard, Deadwood, Scream 2). They don’t go into a ton of back story about how he becomes who he is but suffice to say he’s a bad ass contract killer out on to make a killing (pun intended). After his apparent successful mission we learn that he’s been set up and the rest of the film shows how he goes about taking care of the rest of the contract. I have to give HUGE props to Timothy Olyphant on his portrayal of 47. He walked the walk (quite literally) and talked the talk of 47. When I originally saw who was cast in this roll I wasn’t sure how it would work… he pulled it off beautifully.

Throughout the film, Agent 47 is being pursued by Interpol agent Mike Whittier (played by Dougray Scott who you may know from a stint on Desperate Housewives). Scott delivers some great one liners and pulls off his roll very admirably. He gets the shaft at the end of the movie in a big way but it makes for a great twist ending.

47′s love interest Nika Boronina (Olga Kurylenko probably best known as the Bond girl from Quantum Of Solace) is smoking hot, but really out of place in the Hitman world. One thing that we learn when playing through the games is that this man has very few ties to the “real” world. He’s a killer that is very good at what he does because he has no ties. To think that he would have any kind of attachment to a whore no less is kind of a stretch.

This movie was pretty universally lambasted by reviewers. I thought it was actually a pretty good flick when taken for what it was – a neat little action movie. It’s just over 90 minutes in length so it’s not too long and not too short. It’s got a very straight forward plot once you get into it and if you don’t mind the lack of back story it moves along nicely. Big fans of the video game series might not like the fact that the story line doesn’t follow the game but even as a big fan myself I was able to get past this.

The one scene that really had me scratching my head was when 47 goes up against a couple of other agents. They’re at a virtual standoff where they’re all pointing their guns at one another and 47 says something to the effect of “Let’s die with honor” or some such nonsense. Immediately, all 4 of them drop their guns and produce katana-like swords from behind their backs and proceed to slice and dice one another. It’s a GREAT action sequence in the film but we were given absolutely no reason to have it play out the way it did. Weird.

If you’re looking for a good Friday night action movie this is worth the rental. I picked up the “unrated” version used for $9 and I feel that I definitely got my money’s worth. You won’t get a real deep plot but you’ll get plenty of action, quite a bit of violence and some gratuitous T & A. Not only that but if you’re a gamer this is probably the best video game to movie adaptation to date (not that that’s saying much). Enjoy!
