the dark knight

There are some actors that can play many roles.  There are others who are typecast and can never quite get outside of their comfort zone and play another character.  There are still others that are forever linked to one particular character.  That’s what this list is… the top 10 (in no particular order) “what character you think of first” list.  For me, these are career defining roles for these actors.  This is the first 10 that came to mind so I’m certainly not saying that there aren’t other career defining roles out there.  Let the debate begin!

It seems that Hollywood is all about the comic book movie these days.  Just this year alone we’ve been given Watchmen and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to see either of these yet but I definitely will.  That said, here’s a list of my favorite comic book movies!

  1. The Crow (1994) – My favorite comic movie of all time.  So dark…  So creepy and it was relatively true to the book.  Rest in peace Brandon Lee.  You were on the cusp of greatness.
  2. X2: X-Men United (2003) – the intro scene alone was awesome but… Continue reading

There are quite a few movies out there that get nominated for all kinds of awards that are complete crap.  This however, is not one of them.  Slumdog Millionaire has been nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Picture and it may very well be just that (we’ll leave out the fact that The Wrestler and The Dark Knight weren’t even nominated, but that’s another story).  Directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days LaterTrainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary), Slumdog is well worth the time.

PLOT: This is a pretty straight forward plot but there’s quite a… Continue reading

The most prestigious award that any movie can receive is the “Academy Award For Best Motion Picture” — The Oscar.  Once a movie has this distinction it goes down in history as the “best” movie of that year.  The red carpet at the Oscars is a huge evening every year where all the stars turn out for the event.  The Academy goes through some sort of review process and determines which picture is truly “the best”.  Ol Chewie’s here to tell you that there are many times where they’re just DEAD WRONG.

Wow.  Just wow.  Pip had been on my ass for quite a while to see this and I have to say that for the first time in a long time a movie finally lived up to the expectations that I had for it.  I went to see this late one Monday evening.  I stuck around the house long enough to put G down for the night so Amanda would be stuck with both of them.  Then I headed to the cinema (which incidentally has $5 movies and free popcorn all day Mondays).  I called Pip on my way to the… Continue reading

When I first saw this flick back in February of 08 I said that it very well may end up being the “best movie of the year” in my opinion.  Well it didn’t quite get there (as The Dark Knight definitely stole that show) but it was DAMN close in the end.

This was an absolutely incredible movie!  A great way of telling the story with some great actors turning in outstanding performances.  While this movie certainly will not win any awards for specific actor’s contributions, when it’s viewed as a whole it’s almost a masterpiece.

Without ruining anything, the… Continue reading
