Stone Cold Steve Austin

Event: WrestleMania XV Date: March 28, 1999 Venue: First Union Center (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) Attendance: 20,276

We’re greeted with Boyz II Men doing their version of America The Beautiful.  We then get the outstanding “Old School” promo followed by the “Showcase of the Immortals”.  This stuff absolutely gives me the chills.  I’m a dork and I don’t care who knows it.  Wow… awesome.  Announcing team of Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler – is this where JR had his stroke?

WWF Hardcore Championship Hardcore Holly defeated Billy Gunn (c) and Al Snow This is an interesting little opener with Al Snow… Continue reading

WrestleMania 27 is in the books.  While Pip, my bro and I had an absolute BLAST building this year’s Beeramid (pics here) I have to say the show was pretty lackluster.  It took a good 24 minutes after the show started for the first match to get underway… that’s just WAY too long in my opinion (even with the Rock starting things off).

  • Edge retained the World Title over Alberto Del Rio I thought for SURE that Del Rio was going to walk out of Mania with the strap.  Not sure where the WWE is going to go… Continue reading

Event: WrestleMania XIV Date: March 29, 1998 Venue: Fleet Center (Boston, Massachusetts) Attendance: 19,028

We’re still in the WWF days… I keep thinking we’re flipping over to WWE pretty soon.  Good intro here that’s just starting to talk about the “Attitude Era”.  Goes into the lineage of the WWF title, introduces Austin, DX, Mike Tyson, etc.  We get the announcing duo of Jerry “The King” Lawler and Michael Cole on the mic and we go right into the first match of the night with no anthem, America The Beautiful, etc.

15 – Team Battle Royal L.O.D. 2000 (Hawk and… Continue reading

WrestleMania XXVII (27 for those not versed in Roman numerals) will take place on April 3rd, 2011.  I’m thrilled to report that Pip and I will once again renew tradition and construct… The Beeramid.  Just as in past years, we create a set of “rules” that will govern that evening’s events.

Without further adieu… it’s on.

  1. 5 drinks for a People’s Elbow
  2. 3 drinks for any unannounced legend that’s in attendance
  3. 5 drinks for any match that spills into the audience
  4. Finish beer for appearance of the The Ultimate Warrior or Macho Man
  5. 10 drinks if a legend wrestles… Continue reading

Event: WrestleMania 13 Date: March 23, 1997 Venue: Rosemont Horizon (Rosemont, Illinois) Attendance: 18,197

Brief introduction package on what we’re going to see this evening. Vince, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler on the call which is a great announcing lineup. We get right into the first match.

Four-way Tag Team Elimination Match The Headbangers (Mosh and Thrasher) defeated The New Blackjacks (Blackjack Windham and Blackjack Bradshaw), The Godwinns (Henry and Phineas) (with Hillbilly Jim), and Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon I’m not a big fan of tag team wrestling to begin with so I’m certainly not a fan of 4… Continue reading

Event: WrestleMania XII Date: March 31, 1996 Venue: Arrowhead Pond (Anaheim, California) Attendance: 18,853

Still coming to you as the World Wrestling Federation.  Damn if I can’t remember when the switch came.  I could have sworn it was around this time.  We start off with a Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels promo and go right into the action – No America The Beautiful or National Anthem.

Camp Cornette (Vader, Owen Hart and The British Bulldog) (with Jim Cornette) defeated Yokozuna, Jake Roberts and Ahmed Johnson (with Mr. Fuji) Jake Roberts looks REALLY out of place on his team.  The Sesame Street… Continue reading

WrestleMania 25 is just recently in the books.  It wasn’t great but there were a couple of REALLY good matches.  WrestleMania weekend for me always means going back and reliving some of those great matches from past events.  It’s rare that this list is modified, but thanks to the Dead Man and Mr. WrestleMania this year, it was.  Honorable mentions and The Top Ten are listed in order of occurrence (oldest to newest).  Keep in mind that this is MY list.  I’m sure there are those out there that will put some others in their top ten – I’m an… Continue reading

Pip, my brother and I got together and carried on our tradition of watching WrestleMania together.  This was the 25th anniversary of the show so were expecting big things and a great show.  What we got (with a couple of exceptions) was neither.  Overall I’d have to say it was a pretty bad show with just a couple of high spots – certainly not what we were expecting from the biggest show of the year… and the 25th anniversary at that.  I’ll take it one step further and say that the only thing that made this one watchable was that… Continue reading

Pip and I get together every year (just about) and celebrate our geekdom by watching the “Grandaddy of them all” – WrestleMania.  For those of you that don’t know, this is the WWE’s flagship show and marks the end of the wrestling “season” if there was such a thing.  It’s the culmination of story lines that have been going on for quite a while and it’s always the event that is seen by most households.  A few years ago we started a new tradition… The Beeramid.  In order to create said structure we create a yearly drinking game to… Continue reading
