Pip sent me this video earlier today… I clicked and had absolutely no idea what to expect. I quite literally got goose bumps. THIS video is the essence the college experience at Indiana. These guys (who apparently have some fame in the Hoosier state) don’t know it, but they’ve completely channeled the 406 Northlane experience.

Please don’t take this to mean that life at IU was all about partying. There was certainly (more than) a fair share of that, but what this really evokes from my memory is the FUN that we had. I met some of my best friends there… friends that I’ve got and cherish to this day. Not only that, but I grew up there (kind of). IU and Bloomington hold a special place in my heart and these videos have captured a little piece of it…

Where the hell did they dig up all the 406 footage for this video???

If I wasn’t pumped for my trip back to my second home on Friday (which I was) you can damn well be sure that I’m bursting with excitement at this point. Am I remembering and romanticizing a time from when I was a lot younger, in a lot better shape and could drink a lot more beer? You’re damn right!

Good God it’s going to be great to be back in the Hoosier state!

Bow Down To The Plaid Flannel

I’m not sure when it happened. Must have been sometime between when I left Cleveland and arrived in Bloomington. Plaid became cool. And not just plain plaid… FLANNEL plaid.

Perhaps it was a carryover from the “grunge” movement that was sweeping the nation but I can tell you this – the majority of the pictures I’ve got from college have SOME plaid flannel in them.

As you can see here, I’m sporting the standard backwards IU cap and I complete the ensemble with a plaid flannel shirt and some sort of fruity looking beer in a house mug.

Wes takes his plaid one step further and goes with a patterned jacket. Nice touch.

While there’s no plaid or flannel visible for Pip here you can rest assured that underneath his IU sweatshirt the plaid is lurking.

These days I try to keep my flannel to a minimum (only when I’m going lumber jacking).

If memory serves me correctly, this was the first in a long line of “picture of the week” items originally posted on 406Northlane.com. On the left is yours truly and on the right is my bestest bud Pip.

Notice the tandem backward hats. That’s cool people.
Notice the perfectly trimmed “I’m in college I can rebel” goatee that I’m sporting. Sa-weet!

This is pure awesomeness. Pip is sporting a “house beer” shirt that we had made up for when we were hosting a party… class I tell ya. Pure class.

I’ve got on a standard issue IU hat. Don’t leave home without it (even when it gets so damn nasty that it will stand up in a corner on its own).

It’s pictures like this that will never let me forget what a dork I was. (OK fine, I’m still a dork but you get the picture). Unfortunately I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures throughout my college days but the ones that I do have will be archived on this blog.
