Cleveland

For us this has been a summer of weddings.  Denver, Chicago, Cleveland and now Charleston.  It’s weird how after a couple of summers with no weddings… BAM we get hit with 4 in one summer.  Certainly not complaining – we had a BLAST! (See: I Poked The Wedding Cake, Combos, Fireworks and Canoes – The Bachelor In Brookville and A Weekend With The Boys Part I and Part II for details).

This weekend’s travel was not without incident (is it ever?)

There’s no way to get directly from Cleveland to Charleston so we had to connect through Charlotte.  Not… Continue reading

I’m not sure when it happened.  Must have been sometime between when I left Cleveland and arrived in Bloomington.  Plaid became cool.  And not just plain plaid… FLANNEL plaid.

Perhaps it was a carryover from the “grunge” movement that was sweeping the nation but I can tell you this – the majority of the pictures I’ve got from college have SOME plaid flannel in them.

As you can see here, I’m sporting the standard backwards IU cap and I complete the ensemble with a plaid flannel shirt and some sort of fruity looking beer in a house mug.

Wes takes… Continue reading

As I sat in my office watching the crowds on St. Patrick’s Day I learned a couple of things.  In addition to those things, I was really just glad to see PEOPLE downtown again.  I tell you, when the Cavs or Indians aren’t in town, there simply isn’t anyone down here anymore.  It’s sad, but it was damn awesome to see that Cleveland can still be a thriving city.  I’m hoping that the nice weather brought some people out winter hibernation and they’ll be back for good.  Time will tell.  Here are a couple of pics from that day.… Continue reading

  1. Beer on St. Patrick’s Day is the same beer that you get any other day of the year.  It’s just green.  I don’t understand why if you’re not in college you would take a day off work to drink.  I guess I’m getting old.
  2. Bagpipes do NOT sound good.  Sorry to say but they do indeed sound like dying cats.
  3. Girls will take St. Patrick’s Day as an opportunity to dress slutty.  Apparently I need to read up on the history of  St. Patrick’s Day because I LOVE this part.
  4. People will look for the Irish pub they can find… Continue reading

I tell you what… I’ve always thought of myself as a pretty positive person.  I know that the economy sucks donkey balls and it’s been pretty shitty for a while now but JESUS.  When is this going to get better?!?!?!  I get Crain’s Cleveland Business magazine/newspaper which is a great resource for those in C-Town.  With my subscription comes a subscription to their daily email alerts with headlines from around the area.  Today there were 9 headlines… here are some of them:

  • First Energy to cut 335 management, support staff positions
  • Jobless rate in Cuyahoga County lower than state as… Continue reading

I live in Cleveland, Ohio.  I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Anyone who knows anything about the NFL knows that one of the greatest rivalries in the sport is the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns.

They hate each other. Their fans hate each other. The two cities hate each other.

That said, there are a few people living in Cleveland that like the Steelers and I happen to be one of them.  I’m a lifelong Steelers fan and I always will be.  I bleed Steeler blood.  I hate when my team loses and I go crazy when they win. … Continue reading
