Cleveland

After many years, Cleveland finally has a casino!  Just last week, the Horseshoe Casino opened up downtown and so far it’s gotten rave reviews.  There were people lined up around the block to get in and there were lines to get into the place for quite a few days after it’s grand opening.  I’m not going to bother rehashing all of the political maneuvering it took to get it here.  Suffice to say it was a LONG process with quite a few battles.

I’m lucky enough to be working downtown these days, so today at lunch I took a walk… Continue reading

As I do just about every year, last week I attended Opening Day for my beloved Cleveland Indians.  I managed to take one picture as I walked into the stadium.  If you’d like to see more, check out my post from last year.  Our seats were essentially the same and with the exception of Pip, so were the people.

Once again, the Tribe managed to lose the opener, but this year they did it in stunning fashion by giving up a 3 run lead in the 9th inning and then stringing the fans on until the 16th when they… Continue reading

My all time favorite baseball player is Jim Thome.  When he left my beloved Cleveland Indians in 2002 it was a very sad day for me.  So when I heard the news the other night that the Indians had claimed him off waivers from the Twins you can imagine how I felt… I wasn’t sure if I was dreaming or not.  I was elated when I woke up the other morning and read the news that we’d in fact signed him to a contract and Jimmy was coming home!

After the Indians made the announcement that he had been signed… Continue reading

Beer Shots #2 - Der Braumeister (Cleveland, Ohio)

Der Braumeister is a German restaurant, market and “biergarten” located on the west side of Cleveland.  You can find their website here: http://derbraumeister.com/

I’ve been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember.  There’s something special about going to the ballpark, seeing the green grass, grabbing a cold beer and watching the game. I haven’t been to too many games this year but those that I’ve been to have been glorious!

Opening Day 2011

Opening Day in Cleveland is nothing short of a city holiday.  For a city that’s been dragged through the mud for years it always brings a smile to my face to see fans come out and support their teams.  Play ball!

A Day Game From The Upper… Continue reading

Once again this year, Pip made his yearly trek to the Cleveland area for a weekend of reliving memories and debauchery.  This year’s trip happened to coincide with Opening Day for the Indians so we headed down to the stadium to take in a game with my brother Marko and buddy Al.  Pip had never been to the stadium so it was super cool to have a “first timer” there though I can’t say the Tribe played all that well… we were down 14-0 in the 4th inning.  At least I can say that the didn’t roll over and die… Continue reading

There’s recently been a hash tag topic on Twitter called #100FactsAboutMe.  The idea is to tweet 100 facts about yourself (I suppose).  One afternoon I decided that this would be a great idea cause let’s face it… people want to know all about Chewie.  So… without further build up here’s my list:

  1. I’m part of the @clevelanddotcom Twitter Twenty! #CLE20
  2. I live in Cleveland but I’m a Steeler fan. In my defense, I grew up in Pittsburgh.
  3. I chewed tobacco for 17+ years. When I quit I started http://www.killthecan.org/ to help others quit.
  4. I’m adopted. So is my brother… Continue reading

For the umpteenth year in a row, I’ve decided to go to Opening Day for my beloved Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.  (Man… it still sounds weird.  It’ll always be Jacob’s Field in my mind).  I decided that I didn’t want to pay the ridiculous “convenience fees” by ordering my tickets online so I made my way downtown to the Progressive Field box office on a VERY foggy day in downtown Cleveland.  It was so foggy that it looked like a scene straight out of Silent Hill. Thanks to tweep @AmandaKrupitzer for the reference.  I really do try not to… Continue reading

I recently got a new Verizon iPhone 4 for work purposes so I’m officially out of the Blackberry nation.  I have to say that I enjoyed my Blackberry but now that I’m used to it this iPhone is just SO… MUCH… BETTER.  There are a ton of iPhone reviews out there so I won’t bother going into it here.  The biggest upgrade that I see from my Curve 2 is the camera.  This thing is epic and takes awesome pictures.  Here’s a couple of my recent random shots… enjoy.

This is simply a shot of my shirtsleeve.  I love this… Continue reading

Super Bowl XLV is set for February 6th, 2011.  The Green Bay Packers will be going for their 4th title in franchise history when they play my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers who will be looking nab their record 7th trophy.  I have to say that I’m really looking forward to this game.  Not just because my favorite team is in there, but also because I think it’s gonna be a doozy.

Both teams have incredible defenses and both teams have outstanding quarterbacks that can beat you in more ways than one.  Aaron Rogers is certainly a “prettier” passer, but Big Ben… Continue reading
