Kids Do The Damndest Things

Car shopping sucks.  It’s a terrible process.  You never feel like you’re getting a good deal, always feel like you’re getting the short end of the stick and are damn sure that you’re being taken advantage of when it comes to the value of your trade in.  The wife and I have recently found ourselves in a situation where we are in the market for a new car.  Not cause we want to, but cause my car has taken it up itself to break down about once every 2 weeks.  I love driving it, but with that reliability track record… Continue reading

One of my favorite things about the summer is the additional time I get to spend with my wife and kids.  We don’t watch a lot of TV the way it is, but during the summer we really take advantage and spend a lot of time outside.  We’re lucky enough to live in a community where we’ve got plenty of spots to go on family bike rides.

G has made great strides this summer both in the pool and on the bike.  A few weeks back we went down to Lake Erie and took a bike ride along the lake… Continue reading

This past weekend we had our annual family clam bake at my cousin’s house in Pennsylvania.  I’m happy to report that unlike last year, the weather completely cooperated and we had an AWESOME day.  As per tradition, we had 20+ dozen clams, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn, potatoes, shrimp, home made ice cream and beer.

Early in the afternoon, I was hanging out on the porch talking with my cousin and G was poking around down in the yard near the cooler.  I heard him calling for me so I paused from my conversation and asked him what he wanted to… Continue reading

So I’m cutting the grass tonight and naturally I’ve got lots of help from the boys.  G & C were out there loving it and working hard.  The girls next door came over to keep them company on the swing set and I continued to cut.  I told G that he needed to stay where I could see him so naturally every time I looked up he was headed around the corner to the front of the yard.

One such time I looked up and he was on the patio looking like he was going to go in the house. … Continue reading

It’s Monday morning and damn if we didn’t just have a great weekend – though a little on the weird side.  At this point I’m a little sunburned and a little chafed (damn you protective webbing on the swimsuit… damn you to hell!!!) but man was it fun.

Friday: After work and dinner on Friday night, we needed to take Mom’s truck to the Nissan dealership so they could work on it Saturday morning.  After that, we decided to do some shopping so Dad could have some supplies for the weekend’s activities.  We hit up Lowe’s and the  boys got… Continue reading

I get the distinct pleasure every Tuesday evening to watch my son play t-ball.  This is the second year that he’s at it, and while I think that 4 is way too young to play the game of baseball in any form, it’s still about the cutest thing you’ll ever want to see.  G is a ball of energy like I’ve never seen (which my mother constantly reminds me is the way I was).  Needless to say, the concept of “staying in position” or “standing on the base” is a little bit difficult for him.

As I was standing watching… Continue reading

The other night we were having some friends over for a cookout.  Along with our boys, they would be bringing their two girls so the 8 of us sat around on the patio drinking (the adults) and playing (the kids).  I’d prepared some flank steak, salmon (cause the wife won’t touch a piece of red meat), veggies, etc. to be grilled.

Earlier in the day I was preparing the flank and G asked me what we were having for dinner.  I told him that we were having steak and he responded with another question (as he always does… I think… Continue reading

G got done with breakfast early this morning and went off to get ready for school.  Mom went upstairs to get herself ready so Super Dad was left to contend with the C-man who wasn’t quite finished with his waffles (complete with powdered sugar).

I turned my back for a second (stupid move dad) and when I turned back around C had his plate (once again complete with powdered sugar) on his head.  I tell you what… I love this boy but I think he’s destined for the short bus one of these days.

He was having such a great… Continue reading

From the “I couldn’t make this up” file.

As I was talking to the G-man this morning I asked him what he wanted to eat for dinner.  Like it was no big thing, he calmly replied, “Broccoli and champagne”.

That’s my boy.

A couple of days before Christmas our dog Ralphie had some pretty serious back surgery.  His entire back had to be shaved and he had an incision about 6 inches long running down his spine.  Luckily he’s recovering nicely but it’s been a long road back for sure.  We’ve got to carry him up and down all the steps, make sure he doesn’t jump up or down furniture, etc.  Of course this is a colossal pain in the ass cause those are all things he’s been able to do his entire life.

But like I said, he’s recovering nicely.  In… Continue reading
