Today is the Tuesday after the long Memorial Day weekend. For my money there’s nothing better than a long holiday weekend when the weather is nice. Here’s a couple of observations from ol Chewie:
- People don’t recognize the importance of Memorial Day nearly often enough. One day per year is not often enough to thank the men and women who’ve died defending this country. Each and every time I see someone in uniform I attempt to stop and shake their hand and say “Thanks”. My boys are being taught to do this too. It’s very important to me. One quote… Continue reading
The weekends are awesome. I don’t have to go to work and I get to spend time with my family. Both my boys (especially my oldest) LOVE going to Home Depot. They’ve got these awesome carts there that look like a NASCAR which allows both boys to “drive” around the store.
So this past weekend the three of us gave Mom some alone time and we headed off to “The Depot”. One thing that I forgot to mention is that my oldest is currently potty training. He’s only been at it for a couple of weeks now and he’s doing… Continue reading
If you haven’t yet, take the time to watch something called The Last Lecture. It can be found all over Google, YouTube and of course at http://thelastlecture.com/
The Last Lecture for those living under a rock was given by an incredibly brave man by the name of Randy Pausch. Randy had pancreatic cancer and had only months to live. Carnegie Melon has a longstanding tradition of allowing its professors to give a “last lecture”. It’s essentially the lecture that they would give if they found out they were dying. Randy had the unfortunate coincidence of actually being terminal when he… Continue reading
It seems that Hollywood is all about the comic book movie these days. Just this year alone we’ve been given Watchmen and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to see either of these yet but I definitely will. That said, here’s a list of my favorite comic book movies!
- The Crow (1994) – My favorite comic movie of all time. So dark… So creepy and it was relatively true to the book. Rest in peace Brandon Lee. You were on the cusp of greatness.
- X2: X-Men United (2003) – the intro scene alone was awesome but… Continue reading

I just don’t get it. I don’t know when it happened. I don’t know why it happened. But I’ve become “that” neighbor. The neighbor that doesn’t want the neighborhood kids walking through his yard. Now don’t get me wrong. I love kids. I’ve got two of my own. But there is not many things that I find more irritating than sitting in my living room and watching kids run through my backyard. What… the… fuck! Not only that, but RIGHT up next to the house. I suppose it would be one thing if they were back near the woods, but… Continue reading
We’ve all been there. We go out to lunch with some co-workers, go to dinner with some buddies, go to a bar with the gang. The check comes and everyone’s eyes glaze over. First off, when you’re with your boss there’s that moment where everyone is wondering if the boss is going to pick up the check. After that’s passed (and everyone realizes they’re paying their own way) someone will generally grab for the check and start to figure out what they owe. Invariably one of two scenarios occurs:
- You’ve got WAY too much. The bill comes to about $60… Continue reading
One of the biggest thrills in my (nearly) 3 year old’s life is helping daddy take the garbage out on Monday night. He talks about it all week long and then gets so excited when the day comes. We go from room to room collecting the garbage and the recycling and then make multiple trips down to the end of the driveway to take it out. The entire time he’s laughing, smiling, waving to mom and generally making me incredibly happy to be a dad.
In any case, last weekend I had poker at the house for the Cleveland Poker… Continue reading

10 Years Later This Geek Is Done Defending Lucas
Let me start off by saying I’m a HUGE Star Wars fan. Always have been and I always will be. Those movies and everything associated with them will always have a special place in my heart. By association I’m a huge fan of George Lucas and the galaxy far far away that he created. That said, on the 10 year anniversary of The Phantom Menace, this geek is done defending him.
Ever since the final scene of Return of the Jedi in 1983 I wanted more. I wanted to find out where Darth Vader came from. I wanted to… Continue reading →
