So the other day someone updated their status on Facebook and said they were watching Rock Star on TV.  This of course got me thinking of this movie again and I just had to re-watch it for the blog.  Finally… a piece of work that both metal fans and Marky Mark fans can get behind!

PLOT:

Written by John Stockwell, directed by Stephen Herek, and executive produced by none other than George Clooney, Rock Star tells the story of mythical hard rock band Steel Dragon who is in need of a new lead singer.  Chris Cole (Mark Wahlberg) plays in… Continue reading

BOOK DETAILS/INFORMATION:

This is the second Spenser novel written by Robert B. Parker.  It was originally published in 1974.  Of particular note here is the first appearance of Spenser’s love interest Susan Silverman.

Preceded By: The Godwulf Manuscript Followed By: Mortal Stakes

PLOT SUMMARY:

Spenser is hired by the Bartlett family to find their son Kevin that has gone missing.  They aren’t sure if Kevin has been kidnapped or has run away but it soon becomes apparent that things are not as they appear.  A ransom note appears and based on the circumstances around the note and the failed… Continue reading

I recently re-watched the TV miniseries V.  Over the years (due to a subsequent sequel and television show) this has become knows as V: The Original Miniseries.  I remember watching this when it originally aired over a couple of nights in 1983.  I was absolutely enthralled so when it came out on DVD a few years ago I just had to pick it up.

PLOT: Written and directed by Kenneth Johnson, V tells the story of visitors from outer space that arrive on Earth under the guise of peace.  They look human and they say that the reason… Continue reading

So recently got a new Blackberry Curve from Verizon Wireless.  I’ve been with Verizon for years now and I’m very happy with the service.  I have very few dead spots and I’ve never had a problem with their billing.  Their customer service, on the other hand, leave a little bit to be desired.

Bad Decision #1

My wife and I are both on Verizon plans.  Because we use vastly different amount of minutes per month we’ve decided over the years to be on one account but completely separate plans.  This allows us to BOTH get the “New Every Two” upgrades. … Continue reading

The fact that this movie didn’t even get nominated for ANY Oscars just goes to show how messed up the Academy is.  From the very beginning this picture grabs you and doesn’t let go.  The dialogue here is absolutely incredible and makes what could be a slow movie absolutely incredible.

Clint Eastwood plays Walt Kowalksi, a Korean War vet who has recently lost his wife.  He’s an old school grumpy old man who quite frankly doesn’t like the way the world is going.  He’s been living in “the neighborhood” for his entire life and he’s seen the landscape change right… Continue reading

I’m sure everyone out there on the Interweb loves to read about my crap. I had a couple of interesting/funny things happen this past weekend… enjoy!

  • A smoothie, when spilled by a two and a half year old, will splatter all over the floor, table, walls & windows.  When said smoothie is mopped up it will leave a stick residue on the floor until you clean it thoroughly.  You cannot simply wipe it up but the floor needs to be mopped completely.  The child that spilled the smoothie will pick THIS time to imitate his parents by blurting out, “Holy… Continue reading

The most prestigious award that any movie can receive is the “Academy Award For Best Motion Picture” — The Oscar.  Once a movie has this distinction it goes down in history as the “best” movie of that year.  The red carpet at the Oscars is a huge event every year where all the stars turn out.  The Academy goes through some sort of review process and determines which picture is truly “the best”.  Ol Chewie’s here to tell you that there are many times where they’re just DEAD WRONG.

1990 – Dances With Wolves

I have to say that… Continue reading

BOOK DETAILS/INFORMATION:

This is the first Spenser novel written by Robert B. Parker.  It was originally published in 1973.  Many know this character from the Spenser: For Hire television series in the 80′s where Spenser was played by Robert Urich.

Followed by: God Save The Child

PLOT SUMMARY:

Set in the early 1970s, this novel serves as the introduction to Spenser, a private investigator in Boston.  Spenser is hired by a university to recover a stolen manuscript, a medieval document of great historical and literary importance.  At first, the case doesn’t involve any violence. But eventually, someone ends up dead… Continue reading

When this movie (directed by Xavier Gens) was announced I was so pumped.  For those of you that don’t know, Hitman is based on a video game franchise.  If you’re a fan of the game series then you’ll probably like the film (though many things have changed from the games to the movie).  That said, you certainly don’t need to have experience with the game to watch the movie.

The main character is Agent 47 played by Timothy Olyphant (Live Free Or Die Hard, Deadwood, Scream 2).  They don’t go into a ton of back story… Continue reading

I’m a pretty level-headed guy.  I tend to live my life with an “is what it is” or “roll with the punches” approach.  There are not too many things that really piss me off.  This happens to be one of them.

You drive through your favorite drive through and get your favorite tasty beverage.  Invariably they hand you your drink and straw and there’s pop all over the outside of the cup!  What… the… fuck!  Is is so difficult to poor Pepsi, Coke, Mountain Dew, etc. into a cup and NOT get it all over the place?  And if you… Continue reading
