Rourke ready to rumble in Houston – Yahoo! News.

Lord… How I wish this wasn’t real.  The Wrestler is an incredible movie.  It’s great for a variety of reasons but the main reason is that it shows the “real” side of professional wrestling.  It shows how difficult this business can be on the wrestlers.  It shows how much the performers give up for their profession.

If this is Rourke’s way of drumming up press for his new movie then so be it.  For Vince McMahon I can almost guarantee that it’s nothing more than a money grab.  I’d hoped… Continue reading

BOOK DETAILS/INFORMATION:

This is the 5th Jesse Stone novel and was published in 2006.  There was a made for TV version of this story starring Tom Selleck that aired on May 22, 2007.  Selleck was given an Emmy nomination (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie) for his performance.

PLOT SUMMARY:

In Paradise, Massachusetts, the body of serial divorcee Florence Horvarth washes up on the local shore. As Stone investigates her death, he uncovers a shady world of sexual degeneracy involving incest, pedophilia, statutory rape and voyeurism. Stone also finds himself perturbed by the perceived complacency of Florence’s… Continue reading

My wife and kids were out of town a few weeks back and I had some alone time with the DVR.  I of course took it upon myself to watch a bunch of movies that I’d seen before.  When it comes to 80′s action flicks this is one of the best. The premise of the movie is pretty straight forward:

  • Bar owner buys a place and wants to clean it up
  • Said bar owner decides that he needs to get the best “cooler” to help him with said clean up
  • Patrick Swayze is said cooler (I.E. bad ass) and chaos… Continue reading

This is the type of movie that Oscar loves (as of this writing, Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei have both been nominated for their performances and Rourke has already won the Golden Globe for his).  If you’re a wrestling fan you’ll like it.  If you’re a “smart” wrestling fan you’ll love it.  If you’re not into wrestling or you think it’s “fake” you’ll probably hate this flick but might be able to appreciate some of the performances that are turned in.

As you’re reading this review keep in mind that I’m a “smart” wrestling fan.  Please recognize that the term… Continue reading

The most prestigious award that any movie can receive is the “Academy Award For Best Motion Picture” — The Oscar.  Once a movie has this distinction it goes down in history as the “best” movie of that year.  The red carpet at the Oscars is a huge evening every year where all the stars turn out for the event.  The Academy goes through some sort of review process and determines which picture is truly “the best”.  Ol Chewie’s here to tell you that there are many times where they’re just DEAD WRONG.

2000 – Gladiator

Not sure that I… Continue reading

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles is finding new and inventive ways to piss me off.  Apparently it’s not good enough that I’ve got to go down there very couple of years to deal with some clerk that’s so irritated that she needs to do her job that she makes it her personal goal to ruin my day as well.  It’s not good enough that once every two years I’ve got to take time out of my day (only from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM) to get an E-Check.  Nope, now they’ve got a new scheme — Proof Of Insurance… Continue reading

Now before you get all on my case about this movie review being 5 years too late let me give you a bit of background… I don’t watch nearly as many movies as I used to.  At least I don’t watch them right when they come out.  The wife and I haven’t seen a movie in the last 15 years that we both like so it’s very rare that we rent anything.  My kids are 2.5 and 9 months and I refuse to write movie reviews for The Wiggles and Dora the Explorer so I’m unfortunately way backed up on… Continue reading
